A good first week is no accident

What we arrange before day one

Monday morning, seven o’clock. Your crew is ready, the schedule is tight, and a new tradesman is joining you, someone you’ve never met. For many project managers, that is the most nerve-racking moment of hiring in external staff. Will he pull his weight from the first hour, or will you spend half the week arranging, explaining and chasing things up?

What happens on that first morning is rarely decided on the morning itself. It is decided in the weeks before. That is why, at Fender, the first working day starts long before anyone sets foot on site.

The right match is half the job

Before we match a tradesman to a project, we look beyond availability. What exactly does the work involve, which certificates are required, and what does the crew look like that he’ll be joining? Only once that is clear do we look for the right person: on craftsmanship, on experience and on attitude to work.

Sometimes that takes an extra conversation. But it prevents the most expensive kind of hire: someone who turns out not to fit after two weeks. Changes on site don’t cost you hours, they cost you momentum. The crew has to bring someone up to speed all over again, the schedule slips, and confidence takes a knock.

Paperwork and certificates: arranged, not checked on site

Nothing delays a start quite as effectively as a missing document. Contracts, registration, insurance and certifications such as VCA (SCC) safety certification are all in place with us before a start date is even agreed. You get one point of contact and one clear invoice; the rest of the administration sits with us.

A room of your own: the basis for a good working week

A tradesman who comes from abroad to work here puts in long days and doesn’t sleep in his own home. That is why we arrange accommodation with a private room. No shared bedrooms, no overcrowded houses, just a place to sleep, cook and call home in peace.

That may sound like something separate from your project. It isn’t. Someone who rests well is sharp on the scaffolding the next morning. Someone who sleeps badly week after week makes mistakes, or leaves. Good housing isn’t a perk for the tradesman; it is a quality factor for the work.

Practical obstacles, removed in advance

  • Transport arranged: our people travel to the Netherlands and to the project site without you having to organise a thing.
  • Work clothing and tools: everyone arrives fully equipped and presentable. That signals professionalism and prevents hassle on day one.
  • English on the work floor: we select strictly on language skills, so that discussions with your own fitters run smoothly from the start. Safety begins with understanding one another.
  • A clear briefing: our tradesmen know in advance which project they’re joining, what is expected of them and what their working day looks like.

One permanent point of contact, for both sides

From day one, every tradesman has one dedicated contact person at Fender: someone who speaks his language, knows which project he’s on, and simply picks up the phone. If something goes wrong with transport, housing or planning, it comes to us, not to your site manager.

It works the same way for you. Short lines, no service desk, no rotating contacts. And if we don’t have the right person for you, we’ll say so. We’d rather give you an honest no than a match you’ll regret later.

What you notice on the project

A well-prepared start is invisible. You notice it in what doesn’t happen: no missing paperwork, no tradesman arriving without tools, no confusion about what needs to be done that day. There is simply someone ready to get to work.

That is exactly what we do our job for. You need skilled people who fit your crew and contribute to your schedule. We make sure everything around that is already arranged.
